Family Learning

We provide many opportunities for Family Learning in school throughout the year. This brings together parents and children in a relaxed, informal and fun environment to help and support both the child’s and the parents’ learning. In addition:

  • parents gain an understanding of the educational aims and values of learning
  • parents can see how children learn at Shapla
  • parents learn how they can support their child's learning at home through a range of practical activities
  • parents can reinforce the message that learning is important
  • parents and children benefit from having shared time learning together
  • children are proud to have their parents and families learning at school; this helps them to achieve in everything that they do

We always celebrate Family Learning Week in the Autumn Term with class activities for families....please come and join us.....all welcome!

St Katherine and Shadwell Collaborative of Schools

Janice, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, works with our Family Learning collaborative schools (Harry Gosling, Mulberry School for Girls and St Paul's Whitechapel C of E schools) to support our work with families. There are frequent opportunities to join in family learning projects. Over the last few years parents and children have participated in partnership projects such as:

  • making lanterns for a procession
  • researching, writing and publishing a parent friendly 'Out and About' guide to local places of interest
  • making glazed clay tiles for a 'London' art exhibition
  • writing and illustrating a collaborative poetry book
  • writing and performing a puppet show at Wilton's Music Hall
